He was billed as ‘The Great Comedian. In His Latest Successes’. It is one of the many superb caricatures of Edwardian music hall performers that were drawn by the artist George Cooke when he was based at the Grand Theatre. He compiled them in a series of albums.\r\n\r\nHarry Ford (1875–1955) was the son of the singer and instrumentalist J. G. Forde. He was also billed as ‘The Logical One’ or ‘The Inquisitive Comedian’, since he specialised in performing comical songs that posed questions such as, ‘Surely You're Not Going To Disappoint Us?’, ‘Why Can't He Take My Word?’ and ‘Is It Necessary?’ He is seen here with his monocle and cane, in the costume he wore for the second of the three songs he sang at Hanley. A reviewer described him as appearing ‘as if just turned neatly out of Bond Street’.","physicalDescription":"Pen, ink and wash caricature on pink paper of Harry Ford, full-length, dressed in a broad-rimmed hat, a flared, single-breasted light brown overcoat, checked trousers and a high white collar.
