This dress was worn by Pamela Talmey, a former <i>Vogue</i> editor, when she married William David Ormsby-Gore, 5th Baron Harlech, in 1969. The fine white wool dress has a high standing band collar, puffed sleeves, and an empire waist. The sole trimming is an applied Celtic design in braid on the bodice. At the wedding, the bride wore strips of braid in her hair to match the dress braid.\r\n\r\nMany fashionable late 1960s and 1970s brides bought outfits by current designers, rather than from a specialist wedding boutique. This cream wool dress looks appropriately bridal, but was versatile enough to be worn afterwards as an evening dress.","physicalDescription":"Wedding dress of cream worsted wool twill with an empire waist, a flared skirt and couched cord braid decoration trimmed on the chest.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Muir, Jean","id":"A2310"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"worsted","id":"AAT227943"},{"text":"wool (textile)","id":"AAT243430"}],"techniques":[{"text":"twill weave","id":"x37297"},{"text":"braided","id":"AAT53638"},{"text":"couched","id":"AAT53654"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Worsted wool twill trimmed with braid","categories":[{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Marriage","id":"THES48921"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2010EG1370","2010EB1170","2010EG1369","2010EG1368","2010EG1363","2010EG1362","2010EG1361","2010EB1171","2006AU2430","2006AU2429","2006AU2428"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307896"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Wedding dress","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1969","earliest":"1969-01-01","latest":"1969-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"11 December 1969","earliest":"1969-12-11","latest":"1969-12-11"},"association":{"text":"worn","id":"x34724"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"T.268A-1986","id":"O1174924"},"association":"Ensemble"},{"object":{"text":"T.268B-1986","id":"O1174925"},"association":"Ensemble"},{"object":{"text":"T.268C-1986","id":"O1174925"},"association":"Ensemble"}],"creditLine":"Given by Lady Pamela Harlech","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"71.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"waist","note":""},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"82.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"bust","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"135","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"overall","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"32","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"to waist","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"64","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sleeve","note":""},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"22","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"wristband","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"103","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"skirt","note":""},{"dimension":"Circumference","value":"272","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"hem","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken by Conservation for Wedding Dress mounting, 2009","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Registered File number 1986/2143.\r\nT. 268 to C-1986 designed for and worn by Pamela Talmey-Colin for her marriage to William David Ormsby-Gore, 5th Baron Harlech, on 11 December 1969.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Wedding dress of cream worsted wool twill with braid decoration, designed by Jean Muir, Great Britain, 1969","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"De la Haye, Amy, ed. <u>The Cutting Edge: 50 Years of British Fashion 1947-1997</u>.
