The design on the left is composed from a central large oval mirror glass above which is another curvaceous frame surrounded by natural ornamentation. The pier-glass is surmounted by a floral arrangement underneath which are two vases on small shelves. The frame is asymmetrical in arrangement and underneath the frame is a decorative lambrequin pattern. The pier-glass on the right is simpler in design and is surmounted by a large leafy form. This frame is composed from straighter, less curvaceous shapes around which foliage is entwined. Underneath both designs are annotations, possibly in indication of the scale of these frames.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Thomas Chippendale Senior","id":"A8241"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":"attributed to"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"pen and ink","id":"x30618"},{"text":"wash","id":"x43741"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil, pen and ink and grey wash on paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"}],"styles":[{"text":"rococo","id":"AAT21155"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2015HR6733","2020ML1973"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"W","shelf":"9","box":"A(iii)"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":""}],[{"text":"design","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"mid-18th century","earliest":"1700-01-01","latest":"1799-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"approx.","date":{"text":"01/09/2015","earliest":"2015-09-01","latest":"2015-09-01"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"22.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"approx.","date":{"text":"01/09/2015","earliest":"2015-09-01","latest":"2015-09-01"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Two designs for pier-glasses in pencil, pen and ink and grey wash on paper, attributed to Thomas Chippendale, London, mid-18th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["D.758-1906"],"accessionNumberNum":"758","accessionNumberPrefix":"D","accessionYear":1906,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-07","recordCreationDate":"2009-06-30","availableToBook":false}}
