His training as a jeweller has given him a technical virtuosity that is clearly evident in these candlesticks. The candlesticks feature cloisonné decoration: the design is outlined by metal fillets (<i>cloisons</i>) secured to the metal base and the enclosed spaces are filled with coloured enamels, which are then fired. This gives a vivid pictorial quality and polychromatic effect to the surface of the metal.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Rich, Fred","id":"A10252"},"association":{"text":"designer and maker","id":"x34662"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"enamel","id":"AAT14910"}],"techniques":[{"text":"gilding","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Lighting","id":"THES48925"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2015HX4687","2015HX4677","2015HX4684","2015HX4679","2006AW2066"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES403997"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES403997"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Candlestick","id":""}],[{"text":"Drip pan","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1998","earliest":"1998-01-01","latest":"1998-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"M.30:1-1998","id":"O84248"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"M.30:2-1998","id":"O84248"},"association":"Ensemble"}],"creditLine":"Commission funded with the assistance of Mrs Rita Gans in memory of her husband, Mr Jerry Gans.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"33","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"08/12/2015","earliest":"2015-12-08","latest":"2015-12-08"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"10.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"08/12/2015","earliest":"2015-12-08","latest":"2015-12-08"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"8.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"08/12/20105","earliest":"0001-01-01","latest":"0001-01-01"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Hallmarks for London, 1998.
