The surface is overlaid with gold ornamentation. It was acquired by the Indian Museum at an unspecified date, but perhaps immediately after British annexation of the Sikh kingdom in 1849, and was said to have been worn at the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In 1879, it was transferred to the South Kensington Museum which later became the V&A.","physicalDescription":"Circular convex steel shield, decorated with motifs overlaid in gold.
