It was acquired by the Indian Museum in London, and transferred with other parts of their collection to the South Kensington Museum (later renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum) in 1879. The simple and robust nature of the matchlock mechanism led to its continued use in most parts of India and surrounding regions throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century.
