George Augustus Sala (according to the Museum’s List of Accessions for 1916); given by Arthur Myers Smith, 1916\r\n\r\nFormerly ascribed to Pietro Liberi, in accordance with the inscription. Few drawings by Liberi are known. One is illustrated in K. Parker, <i>Disegni veneti di Oxford</i>, Venice (Cini Foundation), 1958, fig. 72: another is I. Fenyö, North Italian drawings from the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, 1965, p. 120 and pl. 89. \r\nOur drawing is not by the same hand. \r\n\nIndeed, they style suggests that it is later in date.
