It is a French-made imitation of an English painted enamel. Bonbonnieres in the form of birds and animals were made in the West Midlands in the second half of the 18th century. The Paris firm of Samson & Cie, was established in 1845 to decorate porcelain, and branched out into porcelain, pottery and enamel reproductions to meet demand for affordable collectibles. These birds could be stamped out of copper quite readily, but the factory's reproductions often look authentic.","physicalDescription":"Bonbonniere, painted enamel on copper, in the form of a goldfinch.
