In the 1850's he went to Russia to photograph Kyiv (Kiev), St Petersburg and Moscow, and was the official photographer of the Crimean War. In 1853 he was a founder of the London Photographic Society, which is now the Royal Photographic Society. In later life Fenton was official photographer to the royal family, but also took landscapes and still lifes, taking a particular interest in English gothic architecture.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Fenton Roger, Roslyn Chapel, 1850's; Fenton Roger, Roslyn Chapel, 1850's","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"chapel","id":"AAT4590"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Gallery 100, ‘History of photography’, 2011-2012, label text :\r\n\r\nRoger Fenton (1819-69)\r\n‘Roslin Chapel, South Porch’\r\n1856\r\n\r\nIn 1853, Fenton was a founder of the London\r\nPhotographic Society, now the Royal Photographic\r\nSociety.
