Features stippled in brown and sanguine, with blue-green shadow and some opaque heightening, on a pale carnation ground; hair washed and hatched and stippled in brown and grey, with some gouache for the lights; dress in opaque blue wash, heightened with white, and the chemise in white, hatched and shadowed with grey; background a thick dark brown wash to the left, lightening to olive green to the right; on vellum put down on a leaf from a table-book. \n\n<u>Frame:</u> Eighteenth-century gold and silver-gilt locket, the convex back in silver-gilt, the sides of gold strip grooved with a deep channel and holding the back of the locket in a bezel; the flat glass set in a rebate at the front, and the outside chased with thread mouldings rising to a central arris; the hanger removed, and the whole set in a turned black wooden frame with a brass backplate.
