The habit of snuff-taking spread to China from the West during the 17th century and became established in the 18th century. People generally carried snuff in a small bottle. By the 20th century these bottles had become collectors' items, owing to the great variety of materials and decorative techniques used in their production.","physicalDescription":"The bottle is a pear-shaped flattened flask form without a stopper.\r\nIt is made from opaque white glass with an overlay of red glass partly cut away.\r\nThe decoration depicts a deer hunt beneath pine trees with magic fungus growing from rocks. On the reverse there are two attendants following the hunt beneath pine trees, with bamboo growing from rocks. The neck is encased in a border of palmate leaves and the  neckrim covered with red overlay.
