Volume One: 14th - 16th century</u>, London, 1979, cat. 186, p. 84-85, illus.\n\nThe following is the full text of the entry:\n\nLIGORIO, PIRRO \n(c. 1500 – 1583)\r\n\r\n186\r\nA sacrifice to Ceres\r\nInscribed in ink in an old hand ‘di mano di Polidoro da lo Anticho’\r\nPen and wash heightened with white on faded blue paper\r\n15 7/8 x 10 7/8 (403 x 276)\t\t\t8643G\r\nPROVENANCE Given by Miss Georgiana Lornlin 1880\r\nLITERATURE Gere, <i>Zuccaro</i>, p. 54, n. 1; the same, ‘Early drawings by Pirro Ligorio’ in <i>Master Drawings</i>, 9, 1971, pp. 244 and 249, pl. 17a.\n\nFormerly ascribed to Polidoro Caldara. Pouncey suggested Ligorio many years ago. Gere endorses the attribution and includes the drawings in a group of drawings made during Ligorio's Roman phase (about 1534-69), when he was under the influence of Polidoro, to whom many of these early drawings were subsequently ascribed, like ours.
