This was a popular theme in mid nineteenth-century art, particularly in the paintings of e.g. Millet, in which farm work is endowed with spiritual qualities. Parallels might also be drawn with the work of the photographer Henry Peach Robinson, who created images of idealised peasant life. Lady Hawarden's images differ from these in that she does not attempt to disguise the identities of her models.","briefDescription":"(Untitled) Photographic Study, albumen print, Viscountess Clementina Hawarden, Ireland, about 1860","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"Dundrum House grounds, possibly Togge House","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[{"text":"Hawarden, Cornwallis Maude (4th Viscount)","id":"N3756"},{"text":"Hawarden, Clementina (Viscountess)","id":"N4059"}],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"peasants","id":"AAT230852"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["295-1947"],"accessionNumberNum":"295","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":1947,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-25","recordCreationDate":"2003-04-30","availableToBook":false}}
