The decorative work for St. Giles Church, Cheadle, was discussed in several letters from Pugin to J.G. Crace in 1845. The designs here were executed with minor modifications and survived in 1980.\r\n\r\nAugustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-52) is widely considered as one of the most significant and influential architects, designers and theorists of the 19th century. Following his conversion to Catholicism in 1835, he identified the Gothic style with Christian architecture and his work and writings inspired and framed the Gothic Revival. In 'Contrasts', published in 1836, he condemned classical forms and ardently praised 14th and 15th-century architecture. Pugin is best remembered for his work on the Palace of Westminster.","physicalDescription":"Design for two angels for St. Giles Church, Cheadle. The angels are kneeling within a circle, swinging a censer of thurible. The angel shown looking to the right is drawn in some detail, that looking to the left, the same design but in reverse, is a rough sketch. The censer and a detail of the angel's robe are drawn out in more detail.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"A.W.N.
