If so, it was probably worn by a man, wrapped tightly round the upper arm, like a <i>bazuband</i>.  The shape of an amulet case was often considered sufficient to provide protection against evil spirits, even when it was empty, as here.\r\n\r\nIt was bought for 19 shillings and 6 pence at the International Exhibition, Paris, 1867.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Length of red cord strung with silver-gilt filigree beads.  There are ten oval open filigree beads, alternating with nine cylindrical pendants, shaped like amulet cases.  The cylindrical pendants are hexagonal in the centre, with an open filigree dome at each end, and two loops for suspension, each with a rosette of granules on the front, at the top.
