The fort was commissioned by Giovanni della Rovere, Lord of Senigallia and nephew of Pope Sixtus IV.A corbel rather than a capital, the object would have been set in to the wall at the point where the vault of the ceiling meets the wall providing an aesthetic termination rather than any significant architectural support.","physicalDescription":"Pilaster capital of Istrian stone.  Carved with a tapered bracket, from which rise two acanthus leaves and two volutes with, between them, a shield with the arms of Della Rovere (quarterly, 1 and 4 paly of four, a)Aragon, b)Hungary, c)Naples, d)Jerusalem, order reversed in 4; 2 Della Rovere, 3 Montefeltro) supported by a standing winged putto.
