The symbols include three doves perching on Cupid's quiver, and an altar with a flame.\r\n\r\nSuch designs are known as the \"Valentine pattern\", the \"Absent Master\" or the \"Altar of love\", and were first used on a service made in 1743 for Lord George Anson (1697-1792), a British admiral who circumnavigated the globe. The design was probably copied from a drawing by Piercy Brett, the draughtsman of the expedition, and several variants were painted by Chinese decorators in the Canton workshops, and at the Worcester factories in England.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"gilt","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in overglaze polychrome enamels and gilt","categories":[{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Household objects","id":"THES48939"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qing","id":"AAT18478"},{"text":"Polychrome","id":"x44055"},{"text":"Chinese export","id":"AAT120350"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2013GT5758","2013GT5759","2010EB2376"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"13","shelf":"7","box":""},{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"13","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"TEAPOT","id":""}],[{"text":"LID","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jingdezhen","id":"x32230"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1750-60","earliest":"1745-01-01","latest":"1760-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by Mrs. B.
