He is surrounded by masters of the Gelukpa (Tibetan: sGe lugs pa) Order founded by his own master, Tsongkhapa (1357-1419). This painting is noteworthy as an early example of the depiction of Gelukpa teachers. The Order itself had only been founded in the early 15th century.
