Large commercial workshops and factories, which often 'exported' carpets to other areas, tended to avoid uncomplicated ends because they take time to weave. This carpet was probably made in a fairly local market.","physicalDescription":"Carpet, Turkoman, Beluch, 19th century\r\n\r\nWARP: white wool; Z2S; 15 threads per inch (58 per dm).\r\n\r\nWEFT: brown wool; Z spun, unplied, 2 parallel threads to each shoot; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 8 knots per inch (30 per dm).\r\n\r\nPILE: wool; 8 colours: dark red, red, light orange, dark green, dark blue, blue, dark purple, white; asymmetrical knot open per left and tied around 2 warp threads; 60 knots per sq. inch (870 per sq. dm).\r\n\r\nSIDE FINISH: both sides have four cords overcast with dark brown wool.\r\n\r\nEND FINISH: Lower: 7\" (17 cms) plain weave in 26 bands with wefts of red, dark red, blue, dark blue and brown.
