The location is the Shinobazu Pond on the south-east edge of Edo's Hongo district. The building to the left is a restaurant or tea-house on the south-east corner of the island in the middle of the Pond, home to a much-visited shrine dedicated to Benten, the goddess of water. In the background, behind the bridge linking the island to the mainland, are buildings forming part of the Kan'eiji Temple complex, which was built in 1625 as Edo's equivalent of the Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei to the north-east of Kyoto (the country’s former capital) in south-west Japan.","physicalDescription":"Fan print, aiban size.
