Liberals and Conservatives had almost equal representation in the House of Commons, so the Irish Parliamentary Party led by John Redmond, here carrying a green banner symbolising Irish independence, was able to bring the Home Rule for Ireland question to the forefront of political debate. 'Their Irish Master' suggests that the 'proper' relations of a powerful Britain controlling junior Ireland were reversed by Redmond's wily political opportunism. Here he leads the British Government's leaders - H. H. Asquith, David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill - by the nose.","physicalDescription":"'Their Irish Master'. Colour lithograph political poster satirising the issue of Home Rule for Ireland in the General Election of 1910. It depicts John Redmond smartly dressed in black, carrying the banner for Irish Independence. He leads Asquith, Lloyd George and Winston Churchill, each by a rope tied to a ring in the nose. One has a paper under his arm captioned 'Home Rule', the second a paper captioned 'Budget' and the third a paper captioned 'Home Department'. Signed.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Halkett, George Roland","id":"A7948"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"National Union of Conservative Associations","id":"A7949"},"association":{"text":"publisher","id":"x32600"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"colour lithography","id":"AAT190525"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithography","categories":[{"text":"Propaganda","id":"THES48902"},{"text":"Politics","id":"THES48908"},{"text":"Caricatures & Cartoons","id":"THES48983"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"},{"text":"Scotland","id":"THES262877"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AU1424"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2F","shelf":"DR77","box":"BRITISH MUSEUM POSTERS"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United Kingdom","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"issued","id":"x45592"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1910","earliest":"1910-01-01","latest":"1910-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"76.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"101.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions taken from: <u>Summary Catalogue of British Posters to 1988 in the Victoria & Albert Museum in the Department of Design, Prints & Drawing</u>.
