Her first clients were various railway companies including the London & North Eastern Railway, the Underground Group and the Norwegian state railway. In 1950, along with her partner, Maria Bird, she created Andy Pandy. This was followed up rapidly by The Flowerpot Men and other hit shows which led to her appointment as director of BBC Children's Television in 1951, a post she held until 1956.
