By 1600 a strong framed 'gate' developed that swung out from the main frame, now known as a gateleg. Gateleg tables would be folded down at the side of the room between meals.  This example can be dated to after 1670 by its spiral-turned legs. There is one small drawer. The top may be a later replacement.\r\n\r\nOn loan to Lamport Hall.","physicalDescription":"Small oval oak gate-leaf table with twin gates, on spiral turned legs, with a drawer with turned wood knob. The leaves with a simple convex moulded edge, held on nailed iron 'butterfly' hinges. The gates held on round wood pin hinges. The stretchers decorated with a simple scratch moulding. \nThe drawer of oak, with the front rebated. The bottom nailed up into front, sides and back using small nails with rectangular heads (probably not original). Nails holding the sides are larger, and apparently original.\n\nCondition\n The top replaced. Some worm damage under the feet of the mid-section. Some joints repegged. The bottom edge of the drawer front has been repaired.
