Made of brightly patterned silks and velvets, or richly embroidered in coloured silks, the waistcoat stood out against the sombre blues and blacks of the coat and the pale shades of trousers. This waistcoat was worn by Mr George Higgs (1826-1925) on the occasion of his wedding to Ann Smith Corderoy in London on 12 July 1853. The ceremony took place at the Brunswick Wesleyan Chapel in Dorset Square.","physicalDescription":"Silk damask waistcoat, cream woven with a damask foliate design and green floral sprigs, 6 self covered buttons down front, cream cotton back and lining.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"damask","id":"x37979"},{"text":"cotton (textile)","id":"AAT14067"}],"techniques":[{"text":"weaving","id":"x36800"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silk damask figured with green floral sprigs, lined and backed with cotton, hand-sewn","categories":[{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Marriage","id":"THES48921"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Men's clothes","id":"THES49043"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2010EE5668","2010EE5737","2010EE5670","2006AV6256","2021NA8878","2021NA8885","2021NA8891","2021NA8904"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"A","id":"THES404167"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Waistcoat","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United Kingdom","id":"x29336"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1850-1853","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1853-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"12 July 1853","earliest":"1853-07-12","latest":"1853-07-12"},"association":{"text":"worn","id":"x34724"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Miss C.
