The detailed and naturalistic painting of flowers and butterflies is set against a thick ruby-red enamel, while the jewel-like borders around the neck and above the foot are highlighted to simulate shining gems, with touches of gilding. The decoration suggests the influence of enamel-painted copper, manufactured in the palace enamelling workshop until 1789.","physicalDescription":"The main ground is enamelled in purplish-crimson with a scratched lattice pattern and against this are set finely-painted iris and other flowers in 'famille rose' colours. the formal colours above and below are on a ground of yellow. A pale turquoise enamel appears inside the lip and on the base.\r\nThis style of decoration, described as 'on a graviata ground' in early 20th century English art books, are referred to as 'ci tai yang cai jin shang tian hua' in palace records. They were made between 1741 and 1743.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in enamel colours","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qianlong","id":"AAT18486"},{"text":"Polychrome","id":"x44055"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006AL7378","2006BG2136","2017KC2548"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"136","id":"THES49877"},"free":"","case":"8","shelf":"4","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Vase","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1736-1795","earliest":"1736-01-01","latest":"1795-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Salting Bequest","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"12.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Qianlong 6-character seal mark in underglaze blue reserved in turquoise enamel on the base","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Bequeathed by Mr. George Salting, accessioned in 1910.
