The symbols include two doves perching on Cupid's quiver, an altar with a vase, a garland of flowers, a shepherd's pipe, a bonnet, two hounds and two crooks. \r\n\r\nThis kind of design, known as the \"Valentine pattern\", the \"Absent Master\" or the \"Altar of love\", was first used on a service made in 1743 for Lord George Anson (1697-1792), a British admiral who circumnavigated the globe. The pattern was probably copied from a drawing by Piercy Brett, the draughtsman of the expedition, and several variants were painted by Chinese decorators in the Canton workshops, and at the Worcester factories in England.","physicalDescription":"Vase of porcelain, with straight, spreading sides decorated in overglaze polychrome enamels with a landscape with amorous trophies: two doves perching on Cupid's quiver, an altar with a vase, a garland of flowers, a shepherd's pipe, a bonnet, two hounds and two crooks.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"gilt","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamels, gilded","categories":[{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Household objects","id":"THES48939"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qing","id":"AAT18478"},{"text":"Polychrome","id":"x44055"},{"text":"Chinese export","id":"AAT120350"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010EB2376"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"13","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Vase","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jingdezhen","id":"x32230"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1745-60","earliest":"1740-01-01","latest":"1760-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by Basil Ionides","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"13.21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"11.94","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Vase, porcelain decorated with amorous trophies, China, Qing dynasty, ca. 1745-1760","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Kerr, Rose and Luisa E.
