From shoulder to hem are fixed pleated frills of yellow synthetic fabric woven with silver lurex each held under a strip of braid.  Fixed to each sleeve is a bold cuff in orange synthetic fabric with a frill of the same yellow and silver fabric as the front frills held in place by a band of braid. It was later revived at the Coliseum when the Sadler's Wells Opera had become English National Opera, and later at English National Opera North.\n\nHistorical significance: The costume is the work of a distinguished theatrical designer for an opera by Richard Rodney Bennett, who was to become one of Britain's most distinguished composers.
