Conspicuous symbols of wealth, such as the extravagant buckles and high heels of earlier shoes, were no longer appropriate. \r\n\r\nWomen's shoes were also known as slippers. They had broad flattish heels, long pointed toes and a low U-shaped throat (or perhaps V-shaped). Simple but elegant, they were made from a wide range of beautiful coloured leathers. This pair has a stencilled design of small flowers in a grid pattern.","physicalDescription":"Pair of women's shoes with pointed toe and low shaped heel, made of yellow leather with abstract floral decoration stencilled in black.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Leather","id":"AAT11845"},{"text":"wood","id":"AAT11914"}],"techniques":[{"text":"shoe making","id":"x40339"},{"text":"stencilling","id":"AAT53433"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Leather, wood; stencilling, hand-made","categories":[{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Footwear","id":"THES48951"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AW1498","2006AL4893"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES325949"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES325949"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"No","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1800","earliest":"1795-01-01","latest":"1804-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Sydney Vacher","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Depth","value":"26.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"A pair of women's shoes, ca.1800, British, yellow leather stencilled with black","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Yellow and black stencilled leather shoe\r\nBritish, about 1800\r\nMuseum no.
