Conspicuous symbols of wealth, such as the extravagant buckles and high heels of earlier shoes, were no longer appropriate. \r\n\r\nWomen's shoes were also known as slippers. They had broad flattish heels, long pointed toes and a low U-shaped throat (or perhaps V-shaped). Simple but elegant, they were made from a wide range of  beautiful coloured leathers.","physicalDescription":"Pair of women's shoes pointed toe and U shaped throat","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Leather","id":"AAT11845"}],"techniques":[{"text":"shoe-making","id":"x40339"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Leather","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Footwear","id":"THES48951"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2019MK3033","2006AW1498"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES325952"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES325952"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1790s","earliest":"1790-01-01","latest":"1799-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"T.10-1918","id":"O75256"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"T.481-1913","id":"O75265"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"26","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"at heel","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"of sole","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Pair of women's shoes of pale blue dyed leather, 1790s, British","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["151A-1900","151-1900"],"accessionNumberNum":"151","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":1900,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Shoe [1]","Shoe [2]"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-29","recordCreationDate":"2003-02-25","availableToBook":true}}
