Paris, son of the king of Troy, was invited to judge who was the most beautiful goddess: Hera, Athena or Aphrodite. He selected Aphrodite and offered her the golden apple of victory, thereby initiating the Trojan wars. \r\n\r\nThe scene on this plate, framed by a gilt spearhead border, one of the several variants of border known for this subject, was copied from a print, still unidentified. This engraving was most likely made after a 1636 painting by Peter Paul Rubens. Other prints with the same details as this example were produced in France in the late 18th century","physicalDescription":"Decorated with The Judgement of Paris, with famille rose enamels; with an edging of rouge-de fer and gold.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"gilt","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain painted in overglaze enamels and gilt","categories":[{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Household objects","id":"THES48939"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Qing","id":"AAT18478"},{"text":"Polychrome","id":"x44055"},{"text":"Chinese export","id":"AAT120350"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010ED0762"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"13","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"PLATE","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Jingdezhen","id":"x32230"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"mid 18th century","earliest":"1725-01-01","latest":"1775-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by W.
