This design for a woven double cloth is partly based on a Persian motif, hence the name `Omar' (probably after the 11th century Persian poet Omar Khayyam, whose work was popular in Britain in the later 19th century), but it also has some of the characteristics of British Art Nouveau. Yet Townsend, as a member of the Arts & Crafts movement, would have rejected any connection between his work and continental Art Nouveau.","physicalDescription":"A brick repeat with horizontal mirror of three tulip buds and a fully-opened tulip in profile divided by a central stem. Only the bottom right horizontal mirror repeat is coloured and the others are in pencil. The coloured repeat consists of two orange flowers in profile divided by a blue stem flanked by three, yellow tulips on each side facing inwards lying on green leaves.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Townsend, Charles Harrison","id":"A8925"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Alexander Morton & Co.","id":"A9032"},"association":{"text":"designed for","id":"x41471"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"},{"text":"bodycolour","id":"x34671"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour drawing","id":"x37878"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[{"text":"Art Nouveau","id":"x29285"},{"text":"Victorian","id":"x29321"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AG2328","2006AR9784"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF (VA)","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"EDUC","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"designs","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1898","earliest":"1898-01-01","latest":"1898-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"CIRC.887-1967","id":"O78102"},"association":"Design"},{"object":{"text":"T.154-1977","id":"O85094"},"association":"Design"}],"creditLine":"Given by Courtaulds Ltd","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"22.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"' \"OMAR\" C.
