Horne designed houses, interior decoration and a chapel. His watercolour drawing was particularly attractive, and his pattern designs were less eccentric than those of his teacher A. H. Mackmurdo. They were in partnership from 1885-1890.\r\nThis wallpaper pattern is deceptively simple. It is not as well known as his `Angel with Trumpet' design for printed cotton. However, it does show his skill in making a new kind of pattern out of traditional floral shapes. The wallpaper was printed by Jeffrey & Co of Islington, London, who also produced the wallpapers designed by William Morris.","physicalDescription":"Design for a wallpaper with a pattern of bay leaves; Pencil, watercolour and body colour on paper.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Horne, Herbert Percy","id":"A7647"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT54216"},{"text":"drawing (image-making)","id":"AAT54196"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil, watercolour and body colour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"}],"styles":[{"text":"Victorian","id":"x29321"},{"text":"Art Nouveau","id":"x29285"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AP3548","2008BT5661"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"DW","shelf":"58","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"wallpapers","id":"AAT37366"}],[{"text":"designs","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1882","earliest":"1877-01-01","latest":"1886-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.966-1978","id":"O238731"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"51","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"70.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"<i>CG</i>","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed with the monogram of the Century Guild."}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design for a wallpaper with a pattern of bay leaves; Pencil, watercolour and body colour on paper; Herbert Percy Horne; Design produced by Jeffrey & Co.; England; ca. 1882.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Oman, Charles C., and Hamilton, Jean. <u>Wallpapers: a history and illustrated catalogue of the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum</u>.
