He often atttracted clients by inventing little sketches that looked as if he had drawn actual buildings that he had come across while touring the countryside. Sketching picturesque parts of Britain and Europe was a popular pastime. It was part of the nostalgia people felt for a time when the population had worked on the land rather than in factories. Here Lutyens has designed a sideboard that looks like a piece of medieval or traditional English furniture.
