It strongly influenced his work. Japanese designers were expert at producing geometric surface patterns in many variations and in many different materials. Metalwork and silk textiles were the easiest materials for European designers and manufacturers to produce in this new style. Talbert designed textiles with stylized and abstract Japanese decoration. Warner & Son of Braintree, Essex, made this design by Talbert for a woven silk. The company commissioned many designs from leading designers in the late 1800s and in the 20th century.","physicalDescription":"Design for a densely patterned woven textile","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Talbert, Bruce James","id":"A5720"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"},{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"bodycolour","id":"x34671"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour drawing","id":"x37878"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil, watercolour and body colour","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Scotland","id":"THES262877"}],"styles":[{"text":"Victorian","id":"x29321"},{"text":"Anglo-Japanese","id":"AAT21492"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AP3570"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2D","shelf":"DR77","box":"SS63"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"designs","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1875","earliest":"1870-01-01","latest":"1879-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Miss Elizabeth Aslin","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"55.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"55.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Bruce James Talbert.
