They were known as 'dress' shoes. This pair in white leather originally had blue heels, which would have added a touch of bright colour. The toe has become rounded, a progression from the square, blocked toes that had previously been in fashion. Gleaming buckles would have fastened the latchets and added to the overall effect. Frederick, Prince of Wales wore a pair of white shoes for his wedding day in May 1736.","physicalDescription":"Pair of men's dress shoes of white leather with rounded toe and long latchets for a buckle fastening.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Leather","id":"AAT11845"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Leather","categories":[{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"},{"text":"Footwear","id":"THES48951"},{"text":"Formal wear","id":"THES48950"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AV9957","2006BG3603"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES325863"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES325863"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1740s-1750s","earliest":"1740-01-01","latest":"1759-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Lady A.
