This strongly stylised poster representing Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods in Roman mythology, was particularly applicable to an exhibition of posters (themselves a form of communication). Austin Cooper, a poster designer and teacher, was considered one of the 'big five' along with Tom Purvis, Fred Taylor, Frank Mason and Frank Newbould during the 1920s and 1930s. This was one of 54 posters he created for London Underground.","physicalDescription":"Colour lithograph poster with a strongly stylised design representing Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods in Roman mythology.
