The Orient Line had established a high reputation for design in the 1930s. It continued to use leading designers to work on its ship interiors and its advertising. Abram Games (1914-1996) was a freelance designer who had established his reputation during the Second World War. He produced a prolific number of posters between the 1930s and 1960s. This almost Surrealist example integrates image and lettering. It illustrates his personal precept ‘maximum meaning, minimum means’.","physicalDescription":"Colour poster showing an aerial view of a sun lounger on the deck of a ship.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Games, Abram","id":"A7584"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Orient Steam Navigation Company","id":"A36196"},"association":{"text":"issuer","id":"x30790"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"lithographic ink","id":"AAT187750"}],"techniques":[{"text":"lithography","id":"AAT53271"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour lithograph on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Games","id":"THES48947"},{"text":"Transport","id":"THES48881"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"},{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AR9144"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MB2F","shelf":"DR77","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"poster","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"issued","id":"x45592"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1952","earliest":"1947-01-01","latest":"1956-12-31"},"association":{"text":"issued","id":"x45592"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.325-1981","id":"O549250"},"association":"Set"},{"object":{"text":"E.326-1981","id":"O549249"},"association":"Set"}],"creditLine":"Given by the Orient Steam Navigation Co.
