During his lifetime he became a popular watercolourist. But he failed to sell his oil paintings.\r\n\r\nLike the artist John Constable (1776-1837), De Wint was greatly inspired by the English countryside and particularly favoured harvest scenes. He only travelled abroad once.\r\n\r\nDe Wint’s technique was quite different from that of the tinted drawings of the 18th century.
