He became a drawing-master at Eton College, the famous school for boys in Berkshire. He also wrote several texts. In his writings he presented the idea of the ‘blot’, the instant mark on a sheet that could inspire the artist. The freedom of this random method of painting affected Cozen’s more conventional watercolours.
