They included it in their range of Patent Hygienic Wallpapers. The range was promoted as being free from arsenic (a poisonous substance) and also washable. In 1880 they re-issued the design, without the figures, as a block print called The Briar Rose. Walter Crane (1845-1915) was also an illustrator of children’s books. Many of his illustrations were adapted for nursery wallpapers.","physicalDescription":"Portion of 'The Sleeping Beauty' wallpaper, featuring characters from Sleeping Beauty, dogs and peacocks amidst branches of briar rose; Colour machine print, on paper.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Crane, Walter","id":"A8296"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Jeffrey & Co.","id":"A9139"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"colour machine print","id":"x37023"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour machine print, on paper","categories":[{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"},{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"},{"text":"Illustration","id":"THES48938"}],"styles":[{"text":"Aesthetic movement","id":"AAT18124"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AL4032","2011EV2683","2006AU4809","2012FH5260"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"DW","shelf":"11","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"wallpaper","id":""}],[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1879","earliest":"1879-01-01","latest":"1879-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"29502F/38","id":"O963146"},"association":"Version"},{"object":{"text":"E.4036-1915","id":"O224318"},"association":"Part"}],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs Elisabet Hidemark","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"310","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"56.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Another portion of this wall-paper is in the Department of Prints and Drawings, E.4036-1915.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Portion of 'The Sleeping Beauty' wallpaper, featuring characters from Sleeping Beauty, dogs and peacocks amidst branches of briar rose; Colour machine print, on paper; Designed by Walter Crane; Produced by Jeffrey & Co.; England; 1879.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Saunders, Gill. <u>Wallpaper in Interior Decoration</u>.
