The back of this matt black crepe dress is cut out nearly to the waist, with revealing additional extra cut-outs at the sides. The sleeves are extremely narrow and tapered, fastening at the wrists with rows of minute buttons and loops. The dress is decorated with interlaced bands of satin down the front and back.\r\n\r\nThe careful cut and meticulous finish indicate that this item was professionally made, and the long scalloped train identifies it as a garment designed for special occasions.","physicalDescription":"Matt black silk crêpe evening dress decorated with interlaced bands of satin.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"},{"text":"crepe","id":"AAT183741"},{"text":"satin","id":"AAT132902"}],"techniques":[{"text":"sewing","id":"AAT53658"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silk crêpe with satin","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Evening wear","id":"THES48999"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AP3493","2006AP3494","2006AP3492"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES307798"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Evening dress","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"},{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1935-1937","earliest":"1935-01-01","latest":"1937-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Joanna Wellington, in memory of Ella Annesley Voysey","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Silk crêpe evening dress, possibly made in London or Paris, 1935-1937","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Mendes, Valerie. <u>Black In Fashion</u>.
