This hanging oil lamp was made for use in a Hindu temple. Its shape closely follows that of the Krishna temple built in 1637 in Patan, Nepal. The four oil trays, pendants, chain and the small birds and animals on the side are additions. Architectural motifs often appear on ritual objects such as incense burners, lamps and shrines.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Brass","id":"AAT10946"}],"techniques":[{"text":"cast","id":"x32615"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Brass","categories":[{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"},{"text":"Hinduism","id":"THES48941"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AJ8794"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES341069"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Hanging lamp","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Nepal","id":"x30053"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 18th century","earliest":"1695-01-01","latest":"1804-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Imre Schwaiger, Esq.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"129","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"height including chain","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"35.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"37","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Height of body of lamp without chain = 42cm.
