The European prototype may have come to Hindustan by way of foreign merchants anxious to secure trading privileges and well aware of the need to provide gifts for the emperor and highest-ranking figures at court. The floral decoration is consistent with that used on major monuments during Shah Jahan’s reign (1628-58).","physicalDescription":"Silver beaker and cover, the inside gilt, chased and engraved.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver and gilt, chased and engraved","categories":[{"text":"Containers","id":"THES48972"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[{"text":"Mughal","id":"AAT18939"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AJ6867","2018LC3863"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"CNMT","id":"THES49205"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CNMT","id":"THES49205"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Beaker","id":""}],[{"text":"Cover","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Mughal empire","id":"THES262021"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"mid 17th century","earliest":"1625-01-01","latest":"1675-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"14.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"8.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Guy, John and Swallow, Deborah (eds.) <u>Arts of India: 1550-1900</u>.
