Although he continues to create commissions in silver, Tyssen has also created a range of objects in what he calls 'the new metal', pewter. This bowl was designed in response to an enquiry by US clothing brand Banana Republic, who subsequently ordered nearly 300 bowls. The design is still in production.","physicalDescription":"Shallow bowl, circular with a concave rim and sharply receding walls: the plain surfaces softly planished. The foot is a plain annular ring attached to the base of the vessel.\r\n\r\nLead free modern pewter (95% tin, 3% copper, 2% antimony), double skin construction, assembled from spun component parts. The spun components were raised on a lathe and soldered together in the workshop of Mike Schofield (Sheffield). The final braising, polishing and inspection carried out by Keith Tyssen in his own workshop.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Tyssen, Keith","id":"A7314"},"association":{"text":"designer and maker","id":"x34662"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Schofield, Mike","id":"A7477"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":"spun components"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lead free modern pewter, double skin construction, assembled from spun component parts","categories":[{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2007BM3992","2006AN8623","2006AW2869"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES399651"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bowl","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Sheffield","id":"x29138"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1997","earliest":"1997-01-01","latest":"1997-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"9.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"31.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Keith Tyssen (facsimile signature) / SHEFFIELD / PEWTER /\r\n234'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"stamping (marking)","position":"Stamped in the centre on the underside of the base","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Maker's identification","note":"Maker's identification; Stamped in the centre on the underside of the base; stamping (marking)"}],"objectHistory":"Made as a numbered edition.
