A precedent had been set by Eric Gill's memorial tablet following the First World War, commissioned in 1919. The Committee were keen for Stone to undertake the memorial, as in this way the Museum would also obtain an example of the best inscriptive lettering of the period. Both this tablet and the one by Gill are displayed in the Museum's main entrance. The present one is opposite the memorial tablet to Dr W.L. Hildburgh.","physicalDescription":"Memorial tablet with inscription","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Reynolds Stone","id":"A7246"},"association":{"text":"engraver","id":"x30813"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"slate","id":"AAT11646"}],"techniques":[{"text":"incising","id":"AAT53847"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Slate, with incised gold lettering","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Death","id":"THES48970"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AM6766"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"60 (VA)","id":"THES49749"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Memorial tablet","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1951- ca. 1952","earliest":"1946-01-01","latest":"1956-12-31"},"association":{"text":"incised","id":"AAT53847"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"46.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"97.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE KILLED / IN THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945 / C.A.CARTER .
