The women of Israel said\r\nthat '<i>Saul hath slain his thousands, and \r\nDavid his ten thousands.</i>' [I Samuel.18.7].\r\nDerwent Wood based his work on\r\nDonatello's 'David', a cast of which he \r\nwould have seen in this Museum's Cast\r\nCourts, when he was a student at South\r\nKensington.
