The copied design was then painted in bodycolour. This was a method of reproducing a design and its colour scheme, and was probably done for reference purposes. \r\n\tThe design is for a type of weave known as a tobine in English, and as cannellé in French. A textured, ribbed effect is made by a warp additional to the ground warp, and can be combined with other effects such as brocading. The flowers, leaves, and feather-like shapes in this design were probably intended to be brocaded with coloured silk threads.\r\n\r\n","physicalDescription":"Watercolour on paper","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28674"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"unknown","id":"AUTH317916"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28674"},"note":"Designed for a Lyon silk manufactury."}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"oiled paper","id":"x42309"},{"text":"chalk","id":"AAT80058"},{"text":"pink paper","id":"x32921"},{"text":"bodycolour","id":"x34671"},{"text":"","id":""},{"text":"watercolour","id":"x32486"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"},{"text":"tracing","id":"AAT53439"},{"text":"pasting","id":"AAT53013"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"watercolour, paper, drawing","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2014GY6915","2012FT6161"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"2","id":"THES263058"},"free":"","case":"CA1","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"design","id":"AAT102051"}],[{"text":"drawing","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lyon","id":"x29500"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1770s","earliest":"1765-01-01","latest":"1783-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"late 18th century to early 19th century","earliest":"1750-01-01","latest":"1850-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"187","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"19/03/2013","earliest":"2013-03-19","latest":"2013-03-19"},"part":"Oiled paper","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"202","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"19/03/2013","earliest":"2013-03-19","latest":"2013-03-19"},"part":"Oiled paper","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"195","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"19/03/2013","earliest":"2013-03-19","latest":"2013-03-19"},"part":"pink-paper support","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"211","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"19/03/2013","earliest":"2013-03-19","latest":"2013-03-19"},"part":"pink-paper support","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"This design was bought on 18 December 1911 from G.
