Now Mes Petits...Pour La France!","type":"assigned by artist"}],"summaryDescription":"The American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) is best recognised for his reworking of cartoon and comic illustration. His prints and paintings bear a particularly interesting relationship to print history, in that he makes prominent use of a magnified version of cheap commercial printing, which has a very particular quality and character. The images are from comic books, but expanded in such a way that they both glorify and underscore the kitsch quality of the popular romantic narrative. The Ben day process, in which a screen of coloured dots is used to provide texture and shading, forms a prominent part of the image, as do the speech bubbles, flat primary colours (very often red and yellow) and thick black lettering and outlines.","physicalDescription":"Colour offset lithograph on paper printed in black, yellow and red on white ground.
