The floral pattern is adapted from a French <i>toile</i> wallpaper, while the faces of the teenage boys were taken from photographs in Virgil Marti's junior high school yearbook. Seen in the dark, the faces lose their bright, bland aspect and appear to loom menacingly from the walls, suggesting the artist's painful memories of being bullied as a teenager.
