It is the second largest river in Peru. The Pongo de Manseriche is a gorge with many rocks and torrents, where the Maranon runs through before reaching the Amazon Basin. This map could possibly be related to the expedition undertaken by Frenchman Charles Marie de la Condamine in 1743, which was considered the first scientific exploration of the Amazon.
